GASTROENTEROLOGY

Studies related to gastrointestinal organs and related diseases, including the digestive tract, liver, and the pancreas. Examples of these studies include: Constipation, Crohn’s Disease, Diarrhea, Gall-bladder Disease, Heartburn, Hemorrhoids, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Ulcers, and various other conditions.

Bowel Preparation

A study to evaluate the efficacy of a potential study drug for bowel preparation prior to a scheduled colonoscopy.

  • Between 18-85 years; no bowel obstructions
  • No IBD with bowel resection history, active inflammation or stricture
  • No significant GI surgeries
  • Must have stable diuretics, anti-hypertensive, ACE inhibitors, ARBs and chronic NSAIDs
  • No uncontrolled hypertension, no severe renal insufficiency, hepatic insufficiency, cardiac insufficiency
  • No insulin therapy or tricyclic antidepressants

Celiac Disease

Study to access investigational agent for patients with symptoms on a Gluten Free Diet.

  • ≥18 years old.
  • Celiac diagnosis ≥ 6 months confirmed by biopsy and serology.
  • Positive for HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8.
  • Has GI symptoms (pain, cramping diarrhea, etc.) at least once/week or 4 times/month despite gluten free diet for at least 6 months prior to screening.
  • No IBD, IBS, gastroparesis, lupus.
  • No Type 1 diabetes. No HbA1c > 8.5%.
  • No cancer in past 5 years.

CRC Screening

Developing new blood tests to detect Colorectal Cancer.

  • Age 40+. Screening colonoscopy—no scope in past 9 years.
  • No positive Cologuard or FIT in past 2 years.
  • No hx of CRC, FAP, Lynch, other hereditary cancer syndromes.
  • No IBD.

Eosinophilic Esophagitis/Eosinophilic gastroenteritis

Study to assess the efficacy and safety of investigational agent, given monthly for 6 doses, in patients with moderately to severely active Eosinophilic Gastritis and/or Eosinophilic Duodenitis (formerly referred to as Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis) who have an inadequate response with, lost response to, or were intolerant to standard therapies.

  • 18 – 80 years old.
  • Baseline EDG more than 30 eosinophils/hpf in 5 hpf, inadequate or loss of response to standard therapies: PPI, antihistamines, systemic or topical corticosteroids, and diet.
  • No hx of corticosteroids 4 weeks prior, no change in PPI, leukotrienes, or diet 4 weeks prior.
  • No hx of IBD, celiac, achalasia, or esophageal

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the investigational agent is a safe and effective treatment for abdominal pain in participants with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

  • Age 18-70.
  • IBS-C or IBS-D w/ abdominal pain.
  • No IBD or Celiac, no hx of CRC or diverticulitis.
  • No hx of GI stricture, perforation, surgery.
  • No cholecystectomy.
  • No diabetes.
  • No orthostatic hypotension or uncontrolled hypertension.
  • No moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers (e.g. fluoxetine, alprazolam, sertraline, atorvastatin, prednisone).
  • No positive hx of occult blood or bacterial tests in past 6 months.
